President Jair Bolsonaro announced on October 24 that Chinese citizens will no longer need a visa to travel to Brazil. The Brazilian government, however, has not yet said when the measure will take effect, and if there will be reciprocity of the procedure for Brazilians who want to visit China. The focus of the exemption will be leisure and business.

According to Embratur, China has about 141 million citizens traveling abroad annually. It is estimated that by 2030 this number will increase and exceed 300 million.

“China is currently one of the countries with the most tourists. Thus, the visa exemption promoted by the federal government denotes an attempt to attract travelers and increase the visibility of Brazil in the international market”, analyzes Bruno Zaroni.

The visa exemption for foreigners to enter the country is already in effect for citizens of the United States, Australia, Japan and Canada, without reciprocity for Brazilian citizens. According to the government, preliminary data point to a 25% increase in US, Canadian and Australian tourists.
